The two ships left mostly unharmed were the battleship Strasbourg and the destroyer Volta. Both of these vessels, along with other ships which had been hit but not completely beyond repair, were sailed to Toulon. In November 1942, the remnants of what had been the fleet at Mers-el-Kébir was scuttled at Toulon along with most of the rest of the Vichy French fleet, to prevent its capture by the Germans.
