How did Queen Elizabeth I deal with her gender as ruler of England?

by King_of_Otters

Queen Elizabeth I ruled England in a time (1558 - 1603) where women were very much considered to be 'the weaker sex'. In what ways did Elizabeth deal with this prejudice? And was it in any way a help, rather than a hindrance, to her as a sovereign?

There's a potential women's history panel in March for which this would be a good question to resubmit. Elizabeth is outside my field but I think you'll find the weaker sex trope challenged thoroughly in a pragmatic sense by evidence both from Tudor and earlier periods.
