I don't think the initial premise is correct. We do see teeth, when the subject is depicted with their mouth open. Bernardino of Siena is a great example, since he lost his front teeth when some "heretics" broke his pulpit and he fell on his face. The missing top teeth became one of the main signatures in art, just as Hercules has his club. Here is an example. Note the bottom teeth.
