When did we start naming our babies?

by krink0v

I noticed this is common through all cultures. Was this always the case? Who came up with the idea to give specific names to people?

We likely started naming each other before we were human in the modern sense. Dolphins, crows, parrots, and several species of primate have been observed to use unique patterns of vocalizations to refer to individuals. Chimps use unique hoot/howl patterns to identify individual "speakers" when calling to each other for example.
