Much depends on your place in society. I will begin with a proverb from King Solomon: "for the price of a prostitute is only a loaf of bread, but a married woman hunts down a precious life." (Proverbs 6:26, English Standard Version) This proverb shows quite well the attitude toward prostitution: It is fine as long as you do not commit adultery. If we look at the book of Leviticus next, we find in Leviticus 18 the laws for sexual morality. Incest, bestiality, and homosexuality are all clearly forbidden, however prostitution is not even mentioned. However, for priests, who are sacred to the Lord, prostitutes are forbidden, as are having relatives who are prostitutes. So, to answer your question, socially it is seen as unwise (proverbs also says later to delight in your own wife), in direct violation of the law or Moses, and could quite possibly end in your execution, which was the punishment for adultery, or at least rejection by the respectable community. Another question arises here and that is whether you are a pharisee or a saducee. The pharisees were the old fashioned, conservative, Jews who were highly respected and highly legalistic. (the main divide between the two parties was over the idea of the resurrection of the dead. Pharisees believed that at the end of time all the dead would be raised.) If you were a pharisee this would be seen as even worse because you had violated the law, however it would not have been difficult to cover it up. Moreover, if fault was being given, it was typically given to the woman, as we see in proverbs yet again. The man was not necessarily absolved, however. Hope this helps!
