In addition to Yuan Shikai's attempt, Zhang Xun attempted to revive the Qing dynasty by putting the last emperor on the throne again in 1917. That only lasted 17 days before he was defeated.

Yuan Shikai did. He was, arguably, the most powerful general during the late Qing Dynasty and the President of the Republic of China. He established Empire of China at the end of 1915 and declared himself as the emperor. Neither Yuan himself not the empire last long. By the summer of 1916 they were both dead.
