There is a gif on r/gifs called Story of a Stone, iirc. It depicts a mountain gradually become smaller, and at one point is fired out of a cannon. How likely is that to have actually occurred?
Stone shot were the common means of arming cannon in England at least through the 16th century, being only slowly replaced with cast iron shot as the price of cast iron fell. The navies of Henry VIII, for example, used almost entirely low-velocity stone shot, while his daughter's fleet that fought the Armada used a mixture of stone and iron shot.
