I'm looking for books on the vietnam war, especially with analysis
So if for example the author says one of the reasons for the defeat of the US was that they lacked experts on asia/vietnam due to the McCarthy era, then he should mention statistic about how many people were dismissed or at least cite experiences or quotes of relevant people living during the time. Basically my point is that i would like the reasons for his assessment to be comprehensible to the reader.
It doesn't matter whether the book covers the whole war or just some aspect of it or if it is rly a book or some other resource (paper etc.).
I would heartily recommend reading Jeffrey Kimball's 'The Vietnam War Files' (University Press Kansas, 2004) which is a collection of primary sources from multiple perspectives and periods and analyses of these.
Additionally, Robert Schulzinger's 'A Time for War, The United States and Vietnam, 1941-1975' (Oxford University Press, 1997) is a great in-depth analysis of the war with comprehensive footnoting and sources.
Finally, have a look through the articles in 'The Columbia History of the Vietnam War' (Columbia University Press, 2011) edited by David Anderson. A very interesting and wide-ranging collection of articles by top scholars on their preferred topics.

my recommendations would by Mark Phillip Bradley's Vietnam at War, which gives a very readable account from the Vietnamese perspective and George Herring's America's Longest War (though it isn't any more!).
