But what made england successful compared to tons of european nations who also have more natural resources than england?
I'm not saying britan doesn't have resources, I mean as compared to italian city states for example who have loads of resources and the whole mediterranean to trade with. or compared to any other mainland european states

Because it never dominated Europe, only, at most (1763, 1815, 1919, 1945) made sure no-one else did, with the help of allies.
If you're saying why did Britain (not England) become the richest country in Europe, or the country with the biggest Empire, that's a slightly different question.
