During the course of World War I, what did Germany think about the loss of its overseas colonies to Britain, Japan, and so on?

by okungnyo

Did Germany realize that it would not be able to defend its oversea colonies because its troops were tied down in Continental Europe?

How did it plan to get them back?

Did it even want them back?

I do not think they saw them as much of a loss, since in the end they teamed up with Japan in WW2, who took the majority of them.
