Does anyone have sources on the manufacturing techniques used to get such precision out of marble and other really hard materials?
I just wanted to be sure you realized that such columns are made by stacking up shorter cylinders of stone called drums. A piece of chalk on a string, or a similar arrangement of wood, is about all you need to see how to make a flat block of stone into a flat cylinder of stone.
