Ive been watching Downton Abbey and am curious about the terms they use for money, I am familiar with "pounds" and "quids" although I am not positive on their actual value but they do refer to "Packets" quite often as large sums of money. I know today in American Currency we have "slang" terms for amounts of money; 1 Grand = $1,000. Was there similar terms for english currency and if so what were they?
