For example I wonder if people ever wrote "I wish it had captured the color of my suit" or "I look better in a mirror as this fails to capture my youthful glow." Or if they simply didn't conceive of photos as having color therefore never thought about it. I know this is difficult to answer so sorry for that; hoping someone remembers an excerpt or relevant book. Thank you!
Vincent van Gogh wrote about how he was dissatisfied with black and white photographs, and alluded to what he foresaw as a revolution in portraiture, pertaining to photography and painting. It's not entirely clear, though, if he is anticipating colour photography, or imagining a synthesis of the two media.
