Police officers who respond to emergencies are usually the ones who are out on patrol on the streets rather than the ones in the station so they don't need a fast way to deploy from their station like fireman.

Firemen were sleeping in the station with the trucks underneath them. Police don't sleep in their station (as a general rule).
