A relative gave me a set of 4 images scanned from the front and back of two photos. The first is of a man and his family and the second is of the man in what is clearly some kind of military uniform (Austro-Hungarian empire?). Based on the information on the back of the family photo, I believe the photos were taken in 1915 and that the man is named Cosma Semenciuk. The little girl on the far left was born in 1908, and as far as I know she was born in the village of Arionesti.
I am wondering if /r/AskHistorians can identify anything about the clothes/uniform worn by the subjects or any other information about the photos they'd like to mention. In particular, I'd like to know as much as possible about the empire/country or military unit that the uniform belongs to. I'd be very grateful for any information from the scholars in /r/AskHistorians, thank you!
The first uniform, as far as I can see, is an Imperial Russian infantry uniform from around 1914-1915. The medal looks like a St George medal that was awarded for merit in combat - it is hard to see on the photo if it is the gold or silver variant, so it is probably a 2nd or 4th class medal (the 1st and 3rd came with a bow on the ribbon).
The second uniform looks like a private soldier's parade uniform of the same era (possibly 1909 pattern).
As Moldavia was part of the Russian Empire at the time, I find it likely that they were serving in the Imperial Russian army.
If it helps, the first photo was taken in Simferopol, Crimea. The second one seems to be in Odessa.
