Under the Treaty of Versailles, Germany was essentially disarmed. Did this mean that all those in the armed forces found themselves without a job? If so, was there any assistance to former military members to help them find a job?
Whilst the treaty allowed for a small German military for self defense a large number of former soldiers did indeed find themselves out of work in the years following the war.
The fact that the country was in both political and economic turmoil at the time meant that there was little to no government support for these men and many found themselves out of work.
This lead to further problems when many former soldiers formed right wing militias known as the Freikorp which made use of their members' previous military experience to essentially offer unofficial military units to whoever they supported.
Such units were used in Berlin in 1919 to suppress the communist Sparticusts.
Another flow on effect of this high unemployment was the fact that many returned soldiers became disillusioned due to not only having lost the war but also finding themselves unemployed and with little or no government support. This lead to many joining extreme right wing political organisations in the hopes of bringing Germany back to her former glory. The most obvious example of this was Adolph Hitler joining the German Workers Party after being discharged in 1920.
I'm away from home right now but let me know if you need sources and I'll add them in later. Hope this helped.
