The victims were Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the throne(s) of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and his wife Duchess Sophie Chotek. The shooter was a 19-year old, ethnic Serb Bosnian nationalist, by the name of Gavrilo Princip, part of a small dissident group known as Young Bosnia, or Mladna Bosna.
