I have read up on the Teutonic Order and people claimed they were "Nordic". Yet, modern Germany is not counted among the Nordic countries. Is this because of Germany's location? Also is Germany ethnically Norse? Is there even a ethnicity of Nordic people or is that a term simply to describe Northern people? I understand that Germany and Scandinavia are both Germanic and worshiped similar God's back in the day. So us Germany in anyway Norse/Nordic?
The short answer is 'no.' The longer answer is that, culturally, linguistically, and ethnically, Germans are distinct from their Nordic cousins. The German language is, way back in its history, vaguely related to Norse languages, in that Old High German is a West Germanic language, which is distantly related to the North Germanic languages.
Norse identification is based as much on linguistics as it is cultural practices, which, while superficially similar to German practices, are quite distinct.
