Just to clarify you are looking for answers as to why:
USN carriers went from big but not that much bigger than everyone else in WW2 to the giants of the Cold War and beyond.
Why they essentially topped out in size at between 90k and 110k tons from the Enterprise on and the switch to nuclear power?
