I've really wanted to find out my family tree the past couple years, as nobody in my family really knows it. In fact, just a couple months ago, I found a document from 1947 disproving the facts we currently had saying my grandmother had changed her name during the war, as the document is a travel card from Romania to Italy with her real name. I have tried sites like ancestry.com, but have never found anything before WWII. So, rather than ask an actual historical question, I'm going to ask one about the finding of the information. How would I go about finding this information? Apologies if this is the wrong subreddit, I really was not sure where to post this.
Hi, there may be people here who can help you, but it would be worth your while to x-post to the sub that specializes in this sort of thing, /r/genealogy. Hopefully they'll have some tips beyond ancestry.com for you. The only additional resource we have here is this in our wiki, for helping to request military records https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/wiki/militaryrecords
