Apart from the simply fact that it's generally literature written during the reign of Queen Victoria, what specifically makes Victorian Literature Victorian? Why are authors like Charles Dickens, Lewis Carroll, Arthur Conen Doyle etc. considered Victorian authors? More generally, how is literature divided and assigned a historic era or age?
Hi, this sounds more like a literature question than history per se, so while the question is fine here, do consider x-posting to /r/AskLiteraryStudies for their opinion
