Where does the word "writing" come from?

by Mahtiggah

Does it have anything to do with writing with your "right" hand. (Righting?)

No. It's from Old English writan, with various Germanic cognates, with a meaning derived from scratching/etching, which is a common meaning-source for Indo-European words for 'write'.

Nothing to do with 'right', which appears to come from Old English rehte, related to modern German richtig.
