OK, so I have an AP History research paper due in two weeks, on any topic I wanted. I decided I wanted to focus on how Charles "Lucky" Luciano revolutionized the Mafia. I really like this topic, but I've hit a roadblock when it comes to finding primary sources to support my thesis.
My main arguments are: his inclusion of non-Italians and giving them positions of power, making the Mafia more democratic (establishing The Five Families), and I need one more main idea.
Also if sources could be provided that would be magnificent. Thanks /r/askhistorians!
You may have already come across this, but the Last Testament of Lucky Luciano is a great secondary source. It is, as the name implies, Luciano's own words translated from a number of interviews into a biography of his life. This obviously may contain a certain bias, but it is a great source none the less with many direct quotes from Luciano himself. As for a third topic I'm not so sure, however, as you mentioned, the way in which Luciano included non-Italians in his criminal network is definitely a key point that you should focus on. I may able to give a slightly more extensive answer later, as I'm in work at the moment.
