I found this sub while browsing /r/history.

Anyway, I kept going to this sub because of how unique the questions that were posted here were, and that a bunch of these questions were answered in very informative posts. I also like the that the sub has to make a person verify that they have legitimate sources so misinformation doesn't get spread around.

I was searching for history subs as a result of some questions I had about the Civil War. I was astonished at the high quality of responses to postings and the consistent application of the sub's rules. That was at least two years ago and askhistorians is now part of my daily reading schedule. As an aside, I had my Civil War questions answered in less than a day, and was also pointed to a suggested reading list on the subject(s). Best sub on Reddit!

IIRC I was browsing an r/askreddit thread about 'Best sub to just read for 8 hours,' or something along those lines, and one of the suggestions was this sub. The two main reasons I stay here, besides the fact that i like history in general, are the questions that I wouldn't think of, as well as the lack of bullshitters due to the Nazis excellent mod team.

Came over to Reddit from Digg, eventually found my way to /r/bestof, /r/depthhub and some other sub I can't remember that aggregated highlights the previous day... Pretty much just used those for a while, but found myself preferring links to /r/AskHistorians because the questions made me curious and the answers were interesting and actually informative. Created an account, subscribed, and this has been my Reddit "homepage" for 2-3 years.

It's kind of weird how I got here. I was watching a YouTube video from a guy that does lets plays (Northernlion) and while he was playing a game he was discussing how he didn't sleep much last night due to him browsing /AskHistorians on reddit.

I found that interesting and tried the subreddit out. Never looked back since :). So many interesting questions and even better answers.

I wandered in from a web search from something in the culinary history area, and essentially went, "Holy shit, this is a GOLDMINE."

And then I popped open a few tabs to read later and forgot about it for a couple of weeks because life. Later on, found one of those (/u/sunagainstgold's profile, as it happened) and have now taken steps to make sure I visit at least every couple of days and try to contribute something.

I think something in /r/polandball led me here a few months ago, and I ended up finally joining Reddit last night because I want to help contribute when I can :D
