I guess I have a sort of technical question: is there an accepted way of integrating hard, quantitative data into otherwise standard-issue history papers? If I say "of X seals, Y show this figure, which shows us Z," should I be including the data for this in a footnote? Should I have a longer write-up with methods, data, etc. in an appendix? It's been something like eight years since I wrote my last science paper, so I have no idea how to show that kind of process in my current work.
