How were little people viewed by different Native American tribes?

Was there some role found for them in the tribe or were they left to die of exposure a la the Spartans?

This is my standard disclaimer that "Native Americans" span two continents and 15K years of history, at minimum. Variation is the rule, the exception.

This is also my standard gripe that "tribe" is an outdated term not used in contemporary academics works, given both it's ethnocentric biases and negative connotations.
