My mom wants to get a working knowledge of U.S. history, preferably in audiobook form. I checked the wiki, and it lists the Oxford History of the United States series, but I think that's much longer and in-depth than what she's looking for. I realize that any book giving a general overview of a topic as large as this is going to be incomplete, but do you have any recommendations? Thanks!
This is an extremely general question. Can you give us some more information about the background your mom is coming from, and what she's looking for? That may help provide an answer.

If nothing else, I'd try the library of your nearest university. The librarians there should be sufficiently knowledgeable to point you in the right direction,
