What advances were made in manufacturing and machining in particular made the greatest impact in the industrial revolution?

I'm a former machinist and have been watching the "Forgotten Weapons" channel on YouTube. I'm consistently impressed with the quality of the machining on guns made in the 1800s.

I would like to know more about the processes, tools, and advancements that made that level of precision possible. Would love a book recommendation, as well.

I recommend the book English and American Tool Builders for a general history of machine tools and manufacturing.
