According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the term discography dates from at least 1930. So, before compact discs, the term still appears to have been used. The term disc or disk used to refer to a medium for recording sound dates to at least 1879 according to the same reference.

I was born after 1981, but I would like to remind you that prior to cassette tapes, grooved vinyl records were a popular sound recording format. These records had double the playtime of Edison's hollow cylinder format, and were more durable. They also were more compact: a cylinder was about the size of a soda can, while a vinyl record was about the thickness of a Chap-stick tube.

The point is, the early vinyl records of the 1890s were the original discs, crushing Edison's cylinder format by the 1910s. The word "discography" was in use as early as 1933, an apparent portmanteau of disc and (bibli)ography.
