Was Nancy Reagan actually influential within the Reagan Administration?

by pgm123

I'm watching coverage of Nancy Reagan's death this morning and they're talking about a number of things she's known for (e.g. "Just say no," her fashion, etc.), but also her role inside the White House. The big one I'm wondering about is they're giving her credit for getting President Reagan to meet with Mikhail Gorbachev. Is this true? What was Nancy Reagan's role in reducing Cold War tensions?

Related to this, if she was influential, how much did her reported belief in astrology in turn impact the behavior of the administration?
