Timeline range? I would also narrow geography given how many subcultures there are in any given cities.

What type of subcultures are you looking at, here? Are we talking reigional, racial, political, religious, ethnic, professional, etc.? There's a huge array of subcultures, and really so many that you really have to pick and choose what you want to look at.

For example, I, as a white male Texan, fall into a wide range of subcultures, each one different from the others and having different impacts on my life and culture.

To start with, there's the Southern demographic. As someone living in SE Texas, I fall into this subculture, though this is quite broad and will have varying influences depending on the state.

Then, there's Texan subculture (which I'd really argue is entirely separate from Southern culture to begin with, but that's another argument). Texas has its own unique traditions and identities that other Southern states do not have.

Next, there's Southeast Texan, which is the wide variety of people who live below the Piney Woods towards the Coast, but north of the Salt Marshes. It's largely a swamp (where it isn't developed, at least) and heavily industrialized, with refineries and processing plants taking goods shipped from up north and south and putting them onto ships in one of the various Ports or offloading cargo and shipping it up by our major rail lines. Rice is also an extremely common crop grown in this area, as is cattle ranching.

Then you have Houstonian, because I live in Houston. Houston has its own unique political, economic, social, and geographic climate that varies greatly from even other Texan metro areas (all Texan metro areas are pretty unique, really) and we act, think, work, vote, and socialize differently from others in other cities.

I'm also a White Male. There are tons of local subcultures just within Houston alone that are based on race/gender - there is the single largest Vietnamese population outside of Vietnam, there's the unique Third Coast rap/hip-hop style and Houston underground music scene, there's Montrose, which is heavily populated by gay/LGBT members, there's the art scene and theater district, there's the Wards (unofficial areas that were previously used back in Houstons darker days to keep "the poor," i.e. black and Hispanic people, contained for "the safety of the city," which now bear the scars of that policy even today); there's Tejanos, a distinct Mexican-Texan demographic - there's really a whole bunch of them, to the point where you can divide and subdivided people into a ridiculous number of categories (Oh, and don't even get me started on religion).
