I'd like to read about military leaders and the battles or general strategies they implemented that made them famous.
Try John Keegan's "The Mask of Command" for a few engaging mini-biographies. Keegan is a little bit superficial if you read a lot of history, but he's not a terrible pop-historian in the military area if you just want a taste.
