Does anyone know this french 17th/18th century general?

by Sibunara

I want to to identify the French general on this portrait at the french embassy in London.

Pic: https://cf.geekdo-images.com/images/pic2918769.jpg or here: https://pmchollywoodlife.files.wordpress.com/2015/11/kate-middleton-prince-william-pay-respect-victims-paris-attacks-lead.jpg?w=600

or search for "Prince William French Embassy"

The picture was taken shortly after the terror attacks in paris, when Prince William condoled at the embassy. Next to this picture was a portrait of Paul Cambon, French Ambassador during WW1. So i assume this general was also ambassador, envoy or some kind of diplomat in the UK.

Checking some french marshals and ambassadors of this time, didn't give me a good result

Also checked portrait lists of Rigaud without success.

If i had to guess, i would say, he's maybe duc de tallard, because of his special relationship to GB or Vauban, because of the defensive symbolism.

So please help me to identify this french general?

thanks s.

ps. hope i didn't violate any subreddit rules, but i'm new to reddit and didn't know where to post it else.

I don't recognize him but FYI embassy staff are generally quite friendly and willing to answer simple questions from people on topics exactly like this. If you sent a polite email to presse.londres-amba@diplomatie.gouv.fr you can be almost assured an answer.

It looks very much like a portrait by Rigaud, stylistically it is very close indeed to this of the Comte de Gace https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/80/Hyacinthe_Rigaud_Portrait_pr%C3%A9sum%C3%A9_du_comte_de_Gac%C3%A9_15092012393.jpg and this portrait of Louis XIV https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/46/Louis_le_Grand%3B_Rigaud_Hyacinthe.jpg the features do remind me of an elderly Louis XIV.

I think it is

François-Marie, 1st duc de Broglie

Among other things, he was Marshal of France in 1734 and French Ambassador to the Kingdom of Great Britain in 1724.
