Both of those posts are limited to the western European intellectual/literary tradition. I would venture to say we don't see evidence of speculative extrapolation from present technology to future possibilities in medieval Arabic authors, either, although there is some fantastic 'technology' that appears in both traditions (just, not in the sense of "predicting the future.")
