Ironically none was really needed, Scottish and English units had already been fighting alongside each other in an unified command since 1702 in the War of the Spanish Succession and were integrated pretty easily with regimental customs surviving intact for a long time. There was a move in 1707 to standardise uniforms on the classic red coat but this seemed to have been an independent decision as up until this point in both armies it was up to the colonel of a regiment to decree his men's uniform.

The Scottish navy by 1707 was only 3 ships (compared to the 323 English ones) which had been built in England and were on the low end of the warship rating and so could be easily incorporated into the new British Navy. There did appear to be some tension on this decision from the Scottish Officers given than some left for the Russian Navy
