Almost not at all. The Second Congo War saw the deaths of about 3.8 million people, of which only 10-15 percent were directly caused by violence. The child soldiers involved in the conflict alongside the various militias were poorly disciplined, used outdated small arms, we're scattered along a loose front and rarely committed to battle for more than a few hours. They were not instrumental in any part of the conflict, which had the Ugandan Army and their Mubutuist allies holding the northeast, the Rwandan Army the southeast and loyalist Congolese forces under Laurent Kabila holding the west. From mid-1999 onwards, the war was a perpetual stalemate until Rwanda and Uganda agreed to withdraw in mid-2002.
