How many Europeans moved to the Americas between the European discovery of the land masses to the end of the 18th century?

by UberEpicZach

Just want to know if a concrete number or at least a widely accepted probable number exists for the amount of Europeans who settled in the Americas between 1492 and around the end of the 1800s. I don't want to know about the natural growth or the population sizes of the colonies, just the number of people who left Europe for the Americas.

I can only speak for the Untied States. From 1492 (really 1497 since Columbus didn't land on the area that would become the United States) to 1790 about 1 million people immigrated to the land that would become the United States. From 1790 to 1850 about 2.5 million more immigrated. From 1850 it starts to really pick up. From 1850 to 1900 about 15 million European people immigrated to the United States. This gives you a total of just under 19 million known people.
