Not sure about it being the oldest, but there is a spectacular collection of personal notebooks from an Elizabethan English artisan named Nehemiah Wallington. It is a great resource for the attitudes and opinions of the common puritan of that particular time and place. A good summary was published in the mid-80's. Here's some info about it.
