How was it that, apart from the Greek independence, the Balkan nations could declare independence from the Ottomans with out a serious fight?

I don't mean to be flip, but what exactly do you mean by "without a serious fight?" The death toll in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-78 and in the two Balkan wars was pretty substantial and very much involved what I would describe as "a serious fight."
