Naturally many of us know that the Prussians were a valuable ally to Wellington's armies at Waterloo, and that only one hundred years later after a great deal of change, relations were the opposite, seeing as it was now the French and British against the Germans.

Queen Victoria's ancestry was vastly German nobles from the various German states, and her husband (and first cousin...) Prince Albert too was a noble German. However neither to my knowledge, were Prussians - and the rise of Prussia into the German Empire is indeed a very fascinating process and subject of history. This makes me wonder what relations were like between the British and their German neighbours (both Prussia and the small states too) between the 100 years from Napoleon to World War One. Naturally I know that around 1905, the British and Germans were in an arms race for production and invention superiority, and the German nation size and power was seen as a great threat to some others of Europe - leading to World War One.

Also, Wikipedia cites that Hanover was lost and incorporated into Prussia in 1866, during the Austro-Prussian War. I would be very grateful if someone could please elaborate and explain this event!
