My grand uncle was killed during WWII during a kamikaze attack while stationed aboard the USS Lindsey. We found his wallet among my grandmother's possessions and I need help identifying the markings he put on it. We know that he joined the navy before WWII and was aboard the USS Honolulu during the attack at Pearl Harbor. He was later transferred to the Lindsey and was killed during a kamikaze attack on April 12, 1945. I will attach photos of the wallet in the comments. Thank you!
USS Honolulu was a Brooklyn class light cruiser. It was at Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941 and survived the war. The ship earned eight Battle Stars and was involved in several battles in the Solomon islands area in 1943.
USS Lindsey was a Sumner class destroyer that was not placed in commission until August 20th 1944. USS Lindsey earned two Battle Stars. The ten stars that are engraved on your wallet probably refer to these Battle Stars, particularly because there is a 2 engraved under the row of stars, with a line of dashes, linking the name USS Lindsey to the number 2.
