They would be apart of the middle class. They were kept out of high government offices and holding high military positions. This was done specific in the social structure to create a distinction between creole and peninsular. This is one of the major reasons why creole lead the fight during the Latin America revolutions in the early 1800s.

The creoles were merchants and landowners, so there were very rich. They certainly belonged to the upper class but they couldn't reach higher positions in government or in the army. In the practice they were spanish but considered of low rank compared to the peninsular spanish
