I was hoping for some advice and ideas. So far, I've written about the Investiture controversy and the couple years leading up to the pact, as well as a few of the pacts details (terms for electing bishops). I was just wondering if any of you wonderful people had any advice on what else to talk about, or anything I should expand on.
So it sounds like you've covered the background wonderfully! Is this a paper that is meant to argue a thesis, or just be informative?
Either way, you might want to think about the significance of the Concordat. Did it end the investiture controversy/was the IC already over beforehand/did the IC continue? How did the Pc shape later secular/ecclesiastical power relations? Was it meaningful only in HRE, or elsewhere as well? What was the impact of the IC on national power? On Church power? What is the long term (centuries-long) legacy?
To me, all that is actually much more interesting than the 11th century IC mess itself...but that's me. :)
Good luck!
