I've heard of Lincoln and his log cabin. In your opinion, who was the first everyman to run for office? Who was the first to win? OR has it always been the white lie told to the American people?
Honestly, Lincoln is about as close as you get to being the everyday man. Most presidents prior or after Lincoln came from wealthy families. Or received their fame from their military exploits, or as members of their respective state political machines but if I had to say the next individual it would either be Taft or Cleveland.
