How do I make the Moors understand they can't touch this?

I am familiar with the Moors, the people of Africa who in my day were called the Punics. No more perfidious race of man has walked upon this earth, they posses all of the cunning of their Phoenicians forebears, from whom they learned to grow wealthy through deceit rather than labor, with far more cruelty. During our most recent war against them, the general Hannibal knew he could not match Roman virtue or honest strength, so virtuous were we in past times, that he could only fight us through trickery. When I was a youth, I fought alongside Quintus Fabius Maximus, a stout and honorable man. The city had earlier fallen by a grant deceit, in which Hannibal paid a few dishonorable hunters to leave a gate open at night, so his army could slip within the walls and slaughter the soldiers there garrisoning it. It was only by learning Punic treachery than Fabius was able to retake the city.

For this and other reasons, I must furthermore say that Carthage must be destroyed.

Simply arrange your infantry in squares of 16x16 men. Give them the longest spears you can possibly make. I can say from experience that Moors, Persians, Scythians, Indians, none of them can touch this. Scythians will simply run away and leave you starving and freezing... But Moors haven't figured that out yet. You'll be fine.

Also don't forget heavy cavalry. Only thing Moors will be touching is the ground, with their severed heads.

Personally, I've always been fond of the Boulgaroktonos special. Just take them aside, show then your mercy, and poof their eyes are gone! It will definitely be an accident, and blind moors can't touch what they can't see!

The secret to fighting the Moors is the same as it is for everyone else: shoot them full of arrows before they get near you! There's talk in France of a crusade being planned for some place called Nicopolis now that they've got a treaty with us. There's even been talk of some English boys going along with them. I'll be damned if I'm one of them. I've spent too long fighting the French to have a high opinion of their captains. The silly bastards would probably charge right into the Moorish lines and get us all killed!

This is a simple matter. The Moors are but darker skinned Saracens, and it is common knowledge that the Saracens fear lances. You must therefore arm your infantry with lances, as well as your cavalry. It would also be wise to place a shieldbearer between every lanceman in order to protect them from arrows.

Further, all know that the Saracens, and the Moors also, fight naked^1 and so it is possible to defeat their arrows with our own. Therefore, you should train all your infantry in the use of the crossbow and arm the majority of them with this same weapon.

With your infantry drawn up in crowns^2, they shall become an unassailable fortress, an anvil if you will. From these your heavy horse can issue and act as hammers, crushing the cunning heathens beneath their iron shod hooves and spitting them on their lances.
