Both the Tricorn and the Bicorn have "corn" in the name and we're invented after the discovery of corn. So what is the relation between these hats and the new world crop of corn?
The word in that context means "horn." The word for the plant descends from the word for grain. The two words - one for horn and the other grain - seem unrelated.
