The Etruscans are not strictly my area of expertise, but I did do courses on them as an undergraduate and as no one has commented yet I will offer my recollections.

The Etruscan culture had its immediate origins in the preceding Villanovan culture, also found in central Italy, in the Early Iron Age. Indeed there is some opposition to the terminology used, arguing that it implies two separate cultures rather than different stages of the same one. Nonetheless, if we see the Villanovans as "Proto-Etruscans" we may still ask where their origins lay. The general consensus, however, is not one of dramatic Mediterranean migration from the east, but rather that the Etruscans pretty much had their origins in Etruria. They are related to the Late Bronze Age Urnfield culture of Central Europe, so if anything we might say that they had ventured down from a little further north, but in fact the Urnfield culture did have a presence in central Italy.

The Asia Minor origins idea is one that was considered by various ancient authors and as such this tradition survived, but it is not one generally accepted as having a basis in historical fact.

PS: I am also prompted by a quick Wikipedia scan that there is a DNA study with which I was not previously familiar that ascribes a Central European genetic pattern.
