It's Clever Hans, everyone's favorite not-counting horse!

@askhistorians, like many of the things in this subreddit, well predates the introduction of profile cover images in Twitter. So one day, I visited the profile page to find it there, naked and ashamed, with just a glaring bright orange banner, offending both my retinas. I knew I must act! I went to Canva, and opened up the Twitter profile template. But then a new problem, what possible image (out of the entire Wikimedia CC licenced/public domain collection) could possibly encapsulate all that is... AskHistorians? I took a first tactic, one, images of famous historic book burnings, as an homage to an infamous piece of commentary on our practice of deleting bad comments. But the results were kind of creepy and sinister. I needed something more appropriate.

Then I thought, the soul of this subreddit is the people who write the answers! And about 90% of them at one time have suffered from Impostor Syndrome. I think Clever Hans is the ultimate symbol of people who are not sure if they are really smart. I like to think even Hans did not know he was a fraud, because I read Black Beauty and King of the Wind as a child. Put yourself in Hans's little iron shoes: "Am I actually clever, or am I just tapping my hooves to wild acclaim and no one is telling me I am just a horse?" Am I actually a good historian or am I an unwitting reddit fraud? #WeAreAllCleverHans

tl;dr it's a silly image picked on a whim when Twitter profile pics were first rolled out. And it only looks right on a full computer and looks terrible on mobile/tablet so I need to make a new one!
