I am almost done with my history degree, but I still have several more hours I can to complete before I finish school. I would much rather take some classes that would give me an introduction to some skills that could benefit me in the future. I hope to gone to grad school and I am considering minors like digital media or professional writing. Are there better options?
To work in an academic library or archive you will most likely need Master's degrees in both the historical subject of your choice and library science (or archives and historical editing, or information science, or whatever your school of choice calls it). For specific types of archives that cover specific cultures or time periods, languages might also be required. So if you know you want to study Medieval history, Latin might be a good choice. German and French are also solid choices, as would Spanish in many areas of the Western Hemisphere.
Archivists also engage in a great deal of database management, so courses related to that might give you a leg up.
