Here is a picture of the article. Does this plane share any more than a name with the suicide attackers? I thought that the latter emerged later than 1937.
Just the name. The plane named Kamikaze was a Ki-15 "Babs" plane that was primarily used for the record flights and later for the Asahi Shinbun newspaper.
Incidentally, several Ki-15s were used in kamikaze missions later in the war. However, since they were older and slower airframes and were piloted by green fliers, they were very ineffective.
Just to clarify: the word "kamikaze" has been around for many hundreds of years and pre-dates World War II by a lot. It means "Divine Wind" and refers to the typhoons that blew the invading armies of Kublai Khan off course and sunk many of his navy, thus saving Japan in the 13th century. It is therefore an auspicious name for an aircraft, which is why it was chosen for this 1937 aircraft. It's also an auspicious name for an aerial attack designed to defeat an invading army, hence the name for suicide bombers.
